SOPHIE WEISSEL

COMPANY MEMBER

Sophie Weissel is a dance performer and choreographer based in the Atlanta metropolitan area. She began her training at the age of two at Steps Dance Center under Jamie Howard and later at Steppin’ Out Performing Arts Center under Heather Knight, Autumn Ritter, and Frederick Faulkner. Her near-seventeen years of competitive dance experience has allowed her to develop virtuosity in jazz, contemporary, lyrical, hip-hop, tap, and ballet. While at Steppin’ Out, her studio directors chose her to educate and choreograph for children ages 5-7 in the genres of jazz, hip-hop, ballet, and tumbling. Currently pursuing her Bachelor of Science in industrial design Georgia Institute of Technology, she intends to continue her pursuit of artistry and further integrating her extensive and ongoing dance education into her product designs. Aside from academic projects, she performed and choreographed for the student-run dance team at Georgia Tech, her debut piece being “Boggle.”  Sophie could not be more excited to embark on her second season in the Atlanta Contemporary Dance Company under creative director Lauren Overstreet! She will continue to train her technique, expression, and athleticism with the hope of spreading her passion for the art through performances in the Atlanta area.
